some rules :

1- most two syllables nouns have the stress on the first syllable example : CHIna - TAble - WORker

2- Most two syllables adjectives have the stress on the first syllable example : CLEver - HAppy

3- Most two syllables verbs have the stress on the secound syllable example : to exPORT - to deCIDE - to beGIN

REMARK: The change in the stress result in the change of the meaning and word class
* PREsent = two syllables nouns
* PREsent = two syllables adjectives
* to preSENT = two syllables verbs

4- Words ending in ( sion / tion / ic ) the stress is on the syllable befor the last example : concLUsion - diVIsion - civiliZAtion - explaNAtion - phoNAtic - geoLOgic


5- Words ending in ( ty / cy / phy / gy / al ) the stress is on the third syllable from the end example : deMOcracy - stuPIdity - phoTOgraphy - psyCHOlogy - geoLOgical CRItical


6- Compound nouns have the stress on the first part example : CLASSroom - BLACKboard


7- Compound adjectives have the stress on the secound part example : well PAID - old FASHIONED


8- Compound verbs have the stress on the secound part : example : overSEE - underSTAND
