READING FOR LEISURE..."THE SWORD OF GOD".........the dawn of islam.x

since it's beginning,islam has known many great men.some of them were famous because of their exceptional bravery,others because of their great intelligence.x
Khaled Ibn El Walid was a very famous leader of the muslim armies under the prophet MOHAMED.x
Not much is known about Khaled's childhood,apart from the fact that he came from a large family of traders and statue worshippers living in the Arabian peninsula.x
After the victorious entry of the prophet Mohamed in MECCA,khaled became a muslim in the 8th year of the hegira.x
He decided to fight for the new enlightened religion.His bravery and faith soon made him a prominent soldier .x
The prophet Mohamed made him commander of his army.x
At the battle of Mutta,he fought against a large experienced Byzantine army.x
After many days of fighting ,khaled defeated the Byzantines and returned safely to Medina.x
After the death of the prophet Mohamed in the 11th year of the hegira,Abou Bakr succeeded him and chose khaled to be his advisor.x
About this time,a lot of false prophets appeared amongst the new muslims.x
They raised important armies in order to fight khaled,but khaled defeated most of them in the battle of Aqraba.x
Later,khaled's victorious army marched against the persians because they were enemies of islam.x
Their chief,Hormuz,was captured at Madhar,an important town at the junction of the rivers Tigris and Euphrates.x
one of khaled's last expedition was to Syria.x
He fought a big battle at yarmouk which enabled him to take damascus.syria soon became a muslim country .x
He ruled it for a few years and died shortly after,in the year 21of the hegira.x
Khaled Ibn El Walid had given his life to the new religion which he followed very faithfully.x
In 30 years,islam has spread from Medina to Damascus.x
khaled deserved the name of "the sword of god"which the prophet Mohamed had given before he died.x
