Phonetics : is the science that studies sounds . Phonetics describes these sounds using the symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

The IPA uses a single symbol to desribe each sound in. If a letter in a word is silent, there will be no IPA symbol used in the transcriptions.

Phonetic Transcription : it is writing sounds using symbols .Phonetic transcriptions are usually written in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), in which each English sound has its own symbol

1- vowels :
we have three types of vowels : short vowels , long ones and diphthongs . we use ":" after the symbol to say that it is long.

Well,if nobody minds,I want to tackle another point which has to do with Articulation Of Consonants

The production of the (English) consonants involves the interaction and inter-influence of a set of factors.Thus,any description of consonants must provide answers to the following questions:

-Do the vocal cords vibrate or not? In other words,is the consonant voice or voicelless?
-Is the soft palate(velum)raised,allowing the air stream through the mouth,or lowered,allowing the air stream through the nose.
-At what point and between which organs does the closure take place?(place of articulation)
-What kind of closure or narrowing takes place at the point of articulation?(manner of articulation)

Consequently,consonants can be described and classified mainly according to their place and manner of articulation,in addition to the positions of the soft palate and vocal cords during the articulation.
