Demonstrative pronouns

The demonstrative pronouns are :

this for singular nouns when the noun is near the speaker

Example: This book is mine

That for singular nouns when the noun is far from the speaker

Example : That man is looking at me

these for plural nouns when the noun is near the speaker

Example : These are Mr.Robinson's children

Those for plural nouns when the noun is far from the speaker

Example : Give me those clothes,please.

-The relative pronouns
: We use relative pronouns to avoid repitition

1- Who refers to a person ( subject )

I don't respect people. People don't respect themselves

I don't respect people who don't respect themselves.

2- Which refers to a thing or an animal

He liked the movie.He watched the movie last night.

He liked the movie which he watched last night.

3- Whom refers to a person ( object )

I don't remember the man.You are speaking about the man.

I don't remember the man whom you are speaking about.

Remark: You can use that instead of who,whom,and which

4- Where refers to a place

She lives in a village.People know one another in the village

She lives in a village where people know one another.

5- When refers to time

Ramadan is a month . Muslims fast in Ramadan.

Ramadan is a month when muslims fast.

6- We use whose in case of possession

The girl has fair hair. The girl is my sister.

The girl whose hair is fair is my sister.


-Reflexive pronouns.

1-Myself refers to the speaker : May I introduce myself?

2- Yourself refers to the person spoken to : Help yourself

3- Himself refers to a boy or a man : He should cure himself from that illness

4- Herself refers to a girl or a woman : She admires herself too much.

5- Ourselves refers to a group of speakers : My friend and I never engage ourselves in the others' matters.

6- Themselves refers to a group of people whom we speak about : The believe in themselves very much.

7- Itself refers to an animal or a thing : The robot is repairing itself.

-Possessive adjectives : my-your-his-her-its-our-their

-Possessive pronouns: mine-yours-his-hers-its-ours-theirs

Peace be upon you


When we use " by " + reflexive pronouns ?

We can say "
what " a relative pronoun ?

I think
" when , where and why " relative adverbs ?


What about : whoever , whosoever , whichever , whichsoever , whomever , whomsoever , whichever , whichsoever , whosever , whosesoever , whatever , whatsoever , ....Are these relative pronouns also ? Could you explain a little , plaise ?0

1-The teacher asked the pupils « Who is absent today ? »

2-I told my father « You didn’t work yesterday. »

3-He tells her « It is not time to visit your aunt. »

4-She asks him « Where will you go next week ? »

5-The coach told the players « Don’t play the way you played last month. »

6-She asked them « Did you have a meeting yesterday ? »

7-A pupil told his teacher « I haven’t understood this lesson. »

8-A doctor told a patient « Eat vegetables only and drink mineral water. »

9-A policeman asked the suspect « Where were you last night at 22.00 ? »

10-I asked my sister « Can you give me my dinner now ? »

11-The journalist asked the minister « Is it easy to do this project ? »

Turn into direct speech.

1-He told her not to change the TV station

2-She asks him if she may use his mobile.

3-The teacher tells the pupils to revise their lessons.

4-My mother told me that she hadn’t made dinner that day.

5-She said that that book was hers.

6-Obama said that he wouldn’t strike Syria for the moment.

7-The doctor asked the patient what she had taken as medicines.

8-She told him to help her do those exercises.

9-I told them that I had to leave because I was late

. 1-The teacher asked the pupils « Who is absent today ?
» The teacher asked the pupils who the absent is that day
. 2-I told my father « You didn’t work yesterday. » I told my father if he had work the day before .
3-He tells her « It is not time to visit your aunt. » He tells her if it's not timme to visit her aunt .
4-She asks him « Where will you go next week ? » She asks him where he will go the following week . 5-The coach told the players « Don’t play the way you played last month. » The coach told the players not to play the they had played the previous month .
6-She asked them « Did you have a meeting yesterday ? » She asked them whether she had a meeting the previous day
. 7-A pupil told his teacher « I haven’t understood this lesson. » A pupil told his teacher that he hadn't understood that lesson .
8-A doctor told a patient « Eat vegetables only and drink mineral water. » A doctor told a patient to eat vegetables only and to drink mineral water .
9-A policeman asked the suspect « Where were you last night at 22.00 ? » A policman asked the suspect where he had been the previous night at 22.00
. 10-I asked my sister « Can you give me my dinner now ? » I asked my sister to give me my dinner at that moment .
11-The journalist asked the minister « Is it easy to do this project ? » The journalist asked the minister if it's easy to do that project .
Turn into direct speech.
1-He told her not to change the TV station He told her . ^ D'ont change the Tv station ^
2-She asks him if she may use his mobile. She asks him ^ May I use your mobile ^
3-The teacher tells the pupils to revise their lessons. The teacher tells the pupils ^ Revise your lessons^ or You should reise your lessons
. 4-My mother told me that she hadn’t made dinner that day. My mother tols me : ^ i didn't make dinner today ^
5-She said that that book was hers. She said ^ This book is mine ^
6-Obama said that he wouldn’t strike Syria for the moment. Obama said :^ I will not strike Syria now ^ I'm not sure with now *
7-The doctor asked the patient what she had taken as medicines. The doctor asked the patient : ^ what have you take as medicines ^
8-She told him to help her do those exercises. She told him : ^ Help me to do these exercises ^.
9-I told them that I had to leave because I was late I told them : ^ I have to leave because i'm late ^ .
