well to have is an auxiliary

we use have in the present simple tense

i have / you have / she. he and it has

we have / they have

and had is the past simple of the verb to have

i /you/she .he and it / we / they had

the teacher asked where did he live

The teacher asked where ( he/she/i/they /) lived

he said to me that his father went to mecca three years ago

he said to me that his father had gone to mecca three years before

the doctor asked how did he fell that day

the doctor asked how (i/she/he/we/they) felt that day

my freind wanted to know if i enjoyed watching the movie the night before

the introducteur verb and the conjugate

of the verbs between the quatation marks
