Hi,students
Today,we're going to learn about simultaneous actions and interrupting actions
Simultaneous Actions: They are actions which were happening at the same time in the past
and which took a long time to happen. Here we conjugate all the verbs in the past continuous
Example
Last night,I was watching a match and my father was reading a newspaper
At the same time I was watching a match and my father was reading a newspaper
The two actions took a long time to happen.Note that we have conjugated the two
verbs in the past continuous. We call the two actions: simultaneous actions
We can combine the two sentences by : while,as or when
While I was watching a match last night,my father was reading a newspaper
Interrupting Action: It's an action that interrupted (stopped ) another action which was happening
Example
My friend was painting the roof of the room.Suddenly,he fell down
The action of painting was happening but it was interrupted ( stopped ) by the action of falling down
Note that we conjugate the verb of the action that was happening in the past continuous
because it's a long action ( it took a long time to happen ) and we conjugate the verb of
the interrupting action in the past simple because it's a short actions ......It
didn't take a long time to happen
Here again we can combine the two sentences by : while,as,when
