9th Annual Forum to be held under the theme: “Issues and Policies of Child Protection”

First: First Announcement and Goals of Forum
Sociology and Social Service Department is honored to invite you to participate in the events of the 9th Forum which will be organized by the Department under the theme “Issues and Policies of Child Protection” . The forum will feature a number of issues related to violence against children and how to provide them with protection. In fact, violence is a phenomenon that surfaced since the start of humanity. It is a problem that comes with negative psychological and social effects on individuals and communities. Violence is a compound phenomenon that has economic, social and psychological aspects yet differs from one class to another based on traditions and conventions as well as social and economic positions. This Forum will discuss topics such as the definition of abuse, the ways to differentiate between disciplining and abuse as well as the demographic and psychological characteristics of mistreating families and mistreated children. The forum will attempt to suggest solutions and relative programs from Kuwait and other international societies that have previous experiences through experts and professors who are capable of creating programs and solutions to deal with children abuse as well as experiences related to schools role in mistreating children and the effects resulting from negligence.
In addition, workshops will be arranged for discussing the reasons for children abuse and its consequences on children, parents and family as a whole. The proposed workshops will tackle training children and families on how to avoid abuse. Several exhibitions will be organized during the forum with focus on children and family.
Second: Forum Topics
(1) Kinds of child abuse and the role of social workers combating them (eg. Domestic wordless and child abuse).
(2) Kuwait lows and institutions and International charters concerned with the protection of children.
(3) Social and psychological outcomes resulting from child abuse and negligence.
(4) Programs of intervention in raising awareness of the problem of child abuse.
(5) Role of the media in raising awareness on child abuse and the need to stop it

All lectures, workshops and exhibitions will take place at the College of Social Sciences - Shuwaikh Campus - Abdullah Al Jaber Al Sabah Theatre- Conference Hall

Deadline for abstract submissions:
27/12/2012
Note
No abstract will be accepted after the deadline and all accepted papers will be announced within 2 weeks as of the deadline and speaker will be asked to send a copy of the full-length paper within one week of the acceptance date.
Guidelines for Research Abstract and Workshops Presentation:
1- All papers should be of empirical research and studies related to family issues as per the forum main themes.
2- Abstracts should be no more than 350 words
3- The research questions / purpose of study should be clearly stated
4- The methodology should be clearly presented
5- Statement should include preliminary results
6- The abstract will include the recommendations resulting from the study as to social policies as well as professional, practical and educational applications should be clearly stated by the author.
Travel, Accommodation and Transportation Arrangements:
1- Travelling to and from forum site is the responsibility of the attendee.
2- The Forum organizers will be responsible for the accommodation of the attendees with accepted papers in addition to providing three meals per day during the Forum duration only. The attendee will be responsible for any additional expenses (e.g., late check-out, hotel extended stay, international calls and room service.)
3- The Organizers will provide transportation from and to the airport, and from the hotel to the forum’s ********.
