Abdelaziz Bouteflika(biography)

Bouteflika was an piece of the image of the optimistic and dynamic Algeria that rose after the Algerian War (http://lexicorient.com/e.o/algerian_war_1954-62.htm).
We hope that he will get the nobel peace prize for his outstanding role as a peace-maker since he was elected to the Presidency of the Republic in 1999.

He thus saved the country from destruction and spared not only Algeria, but Africa and Mediterranean Basin countries from the scourge of terrorism.

UN peacekeeping

United Nations peacekeeping is a unique and dynamic instrument developed by the Organization as a way to help countries torn by conflict create the conditions for lasting peace. The first UN peacekeeping mission was established in 1948, when the Security Council authorized the deployment of UN military observers to the Middle East to monitor the Armistice Agreement between Israel and its Arab neighbours. Since then, there have been a total of 63 UN peacekeeping operations around the world.
UN peacekeeping continues to evolve, both conceptually and operationally, to meet new challenges and political realities. Faced with the rising demand for increasingly complex peace operations, the United Nations in the past few years has been overstretched and challenged as never before. The Organization has worked vigorously to strengthen its capacity to manage and sustain field operations and, thus, contribute to the most important function of the United Nations – maintaining international peace and security.

Alfred Nobel –

The Man Behind the Nobel Prize
Since 1901, the Nobel Prize has been honoring men and women from all corners of the globe for outstanding achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and for work in peace. The foundations for the prize were laid in 1895 when Alfred Nobel wrote his last will, leaving much of his wealth to the establishment of the Nobel Prize.

The Nobel Peace Prize (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Peace_Prize)
The Nobel Peace Prize (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Peace_Prize) (Norwegian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_********) and Swedish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_********): Nobels fredspris) is awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_Nobel_Committee) "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fraternity) between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for
the holding and promotion of peace congresses."[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-0) It is one of the five Nobel Prizes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize) established by the 1895 will (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_(law)) of Alfred Nobel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Nobel) (who died in 1896), awarded for outstanding contributions in chemistry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize_in_Chemistry), physics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize_in_Physics), literature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize_in_Literature), peace, and physiology or medicine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize_in_Physiology_or_Medicine).[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-1) As dictated by Nobel's will, the award is administered by the Norwegian Nobel Committee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_Nobel_Committee) and awarded by a committee of five people elected by the Norwegian Parliament (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storting).[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-2) The first Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in 1901 to Frédéric Passy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric_Passy) and Jean Henry Dunant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Dunant). Each recipient receives a medal, a diploma, and a monetary award prize that has varied throughout the years.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-3) In 1901, Passy and Dunant shared a prize of 150,782 SEK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_krona), which is equal to 7,731,004 SEK as of December 2008. In 2008, the prize was awarded to Martti Ahtisaari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martti_Ahtisaari) of Finland, who received the prize amount of 10,000,000 SEK (slightly more than € (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro)1 million, or US$ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_dollar)1.4 million).[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-4) The Peace Prize is presented annually in Oslo, Norway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oslo,_Norway), in the presence of the king (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Norway), on December 10, the anniversary of Nobel's death, and is the only Nobel Prize not presented in Stockholm, Sweden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm,_Sweden).[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-5)
The Nobel Peace Prize is generally the most controversial of the Nobel Prizes; several of the selections have been heavily criticized.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-6)[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-7) Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohandas_Karamchand_Gandhi) never won the prize, despite having been nominated five times. Following his assassination in 1948 the committee considered awarding it to him posthumously but decided against it and instead withheld the prize that year with the explanation that "there was no suitable living candidate."[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-8) In 1961, Dag Hammarskjöld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dag_Hammarskj%C3%B6ld), who died after his nomination but several months before the announcement, became the only Laureate to be recognized posthumously (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posthumous_recognition); following this, the statutes were changed to make a future posthumous prize nearly impossible.[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-Lundestad-9) In 1973, Lê Ðức Thọ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Duc_Tho) declined the Nobel Peace Prize, because "he was not in a position to accept the Prize, citing the situation in Vietnam as his reason."[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-NobelFacts-10) Linus Pauling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_Pauling), the Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 1962, is the only person to have been awarded two unshared Nobel Prizes; he won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1954.[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-NobelFacts-10) The International Committee of the Red Cross (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Committee_of_the_Red_Cross) has been awarded the prize three times (1917, 1944, and 1963), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_High_Commissioner_for_Refugees) has won twice (1954 and 1981).[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-NobelFacts-10) Twelve women have won the Nobel Peace Prize, which is more than any other Nobel Prize.[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nobel_Peace_Prize_laureates#cite_note-11) As of 2009, the Peace Prize has been awarded to 97 individuals and 20 organizations. There have been 19 years in which the Peace Prize was not awarded, more times than any other Nobel Prize.
Nelson Mandela

* Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Transkei, South Africa on July 18, 1918. His father was Chief Henry Mandela of the Tembu Tribe. Mandela himself was educated at University College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand and qualified in law in 1942. He joined the African National Congress in 1944 and was engaged in resistance against the ruling National Party's apartheid policies after 1948. He went on trial for treason in 1956-1961 and was acquitted in 1961.
* After the banning of the ANC in 1960, Nelson Mandela argued for the setting up of a military wing within the ANC. In June 1961, the ANC executive considered his proposal on the use of violent tactics and agreed that those members who wished to involve themselves in Mandela's campaign would not be stopped from doing so by the ANC. This led to the formation of Umkhonto we Sizwe. * Mandela was arrested in 1962 and sentenced to five years' imprisonment with hard labour. In 1963, when many fellow leaders of the ANC and the Umkhonto we Sizwe were arrested, Mandela was brought to stand trial with them for plotting to overthrow the government by violence. His statement from the dock received considerable international publicity. On June 12, 1964, eight of the accused, including Mandela, were sentenced to life imprisonment. From 1964 to 1982, he was incarcerated at Robben Island Prison, off Cape Town; thereafter, he was at Pollsmoor Prison, nearby on the mainland.
* During his years in prison, Nelson Mandela's reputation grew steadily. He was widely accepted as the most significant black leader in South Africa and became a potent symbol of resistance as the anti-apartheid movement gathered strength. He consistently refused to compromise his political position to obtain his freedom.
* Nelson Mandela was released on February 11, 1990. After his release, he plunged himself wholeheartedly into his life's work, striving to attain the goals he and others had set out almost four decades earlier. In 1991, at the first national conference of the ANC held inside South Africa after the organization had been banned in 1960, Mandela was elected President of the ANC while his lifelong friend and colleague, Oliver Tambo, became the organisation's National Chairperson.
