introduction :The causes and effects of the land, air, and water pollution problem. Pollution Crisis is a major problem all around the world. It has adversely affected the lives of millions of people and caused many deaths and health disorders. Pollution is contamination by a chemical or other agent that renders part of the environment unfit for intended or desired use. There are basically 3 types of Pollution. They are: 1) Air Pollution ..2) Water pollution 3) Land Pollution
definition Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into a natural environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem i.e. physical systems or living organisms.
Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or cause damage to the natural environment or built environment, into the atmosphere.
Effects Air Pollution Effects
• Reduced lung functioning
• Irritation of eyes, nose, mouth and throat
• Asthma attacks
• Respiratory symptoms such as coughing and wheezing
• Increased respiratory disease such as bronchitis
• Reduced energy levels
• Headaches and dizziness
• Disruption of endocrine, reproductive and immune systems
• Neurobehavioral disorders
• Cardiovascular problems
• Cancer
• Premature death
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans and groundwater). Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.
Water Pollution Effects (Ref. 3)
• Cancer, incl. prostate cancer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
• Hormonal problems that can disrupt reproductive and developmental processes
• Damage to the nervous system
• Liver and kidney damage
• Damage to the DNA
• Exposure to mercury (heavy ****l)
The soil pollution is defined as the presence of materials in the soil which are harmful to the living beings when they cross their threshold concentration levels.
Soil Pollution Effects
• Causes cancers including leukaemia
• Lead in soil is especially hazardous for young children causing developmental damage to the brain
• Mercury can increase the risk of kidney damage; cyclodienes can lead to liver toxicity
• Causes neuromuscular blockage as well as depression of the central nervous system
• Also causes headaches, nausea, fatigue, eye irritation and skin rash
The reason of water pollution is the following;
1. throwing garb ages in the river and other form of water.
2. throwing human feces,animal manure,etc..
3. poor sewage system
4. stagnant canals and Estero.
5. poor drainage system
6. throwing chemicals that is coming from the factory and other industrial areas.
7. throwing dead bodies of animals and even human bodies
Causes of air pollution: There are many different chemical substances that contribute to air pollution. These chemicals come from a variety of sources. Among the many types of air pollutants are nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxides, and organic compounds that can evaporate and enter the atmosphere. Air pollutants have sources that are both natural and human. Now, humans contribute substantially more to the air pollution problem. Forest fires, volcanic eruptions, wind erosion, pollen dispersal, evaporation of organic compounds, and natural radioactivity are all among the natural causes of air pollution.
Some causes of soil pollution:
• Runoff from pollutants (paint, chemicals, rotting organic material) leaching out of landfill
• Polluted water discharged from factories
• Oil and petroleum leaks from vehicles washed off the road by the rain into the surrounding habitat
• Chemical fertilizer runoff from farms and crops
• Acid rain (fumes from factories mixing with rain)
• Sewage discharged into rivers instead of being treated properly
• Over application of pesticides and fertilizers
• Purposeful injection into groundwater as a disposal method
• Interconnections between aquifers during drilling (poor technique)
• Septic tank seepage
• Lagoon seepage
• Sanitary/hazardous landfill seepage
• Cemeteries
• Scrap yards (waste oil and chemical drainage)
• Leaks from sanitary sewers
How can you Prevent Pollution
Turn off Sound pollution
1. Keep the volume of your T.V., music system low.
2. Honk the car horn sparingly.
3. Discourage use of loudspeakers.
4. Avoid the use of band, crackers in wedding processions.
5. Get all to practise laws regarding Sound pollution.
Vaporise Air pollution
1. Keep smoke emission from homes, factories, vehicles to minimum.
2. Avoid use of firecrackers.
3. Dispose garbage in bins, do not bum it.
4. Use spittoons or flowing drains for spitting.
5. Get all to practise laws regarding Air pollution.
Purify Water pollution
1. Never dump garbage near communal taps, wells and other water bodies.
2. Do not tinker with public water pipes.
3. Immerse holy idols in authorised places.
4. Get all to practise laws regarding Water pollution.
Dispose off Chemical pollution
1. Prefer organic manure to chemical fertilizers, paper to polythene, cotton, jute to polyester.
2. Dispose polythene bags through proper channel.
3. Plant more trees and vegetation.
4. Get all to practise laws regarding Chemical pollution.
Noise pollution is excessive, displeasing human, animal or machine-created environmental noise that disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life. The word noise comes from the Latin word nauseas, meaning seasickness.
Traffic: Railway Stations: Aircraft: Industrial Noise:. Construction Equipment: Household Equipment:
Other Causes: The boilers, plumbing equipment, air conditioners, generators and fans contribute to noise pollution to some extent. Noise created by people in public places too is a major contributor amongst different sources. Loudspeakers used in public places are responsible for creating noise of a high degree/amplitude.
• Effect
• Deafness,
• . a decrease in the efficiency in working
• Fatigue caused is another effect of noise.
• Noise pollution acts as a stress invigorator, increasing the stress levels among people.
Recycling is processing used materials (waste) into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution
is the process and the policy of reducing the amount of waste produced by a person or a society.
To reuse is to use an item more than once.
Conclusion. It is high time that we take this issue, of 'Problems of Pollution' seriously, or it could have adverse effects on our future generations.
