The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th or 9/11)[nb 1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks#cite_note-1) were a series of four coordinated suicide attacks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_attacks) that were committed in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) on September 11, 2001, striking the areas of New York City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City) and Washington, D.C. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington,_D.C.) On that Tuesday morning, 19 terrorists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism) from the Islamist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamism) militant group al-Qaeda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Qaeda) hijacked (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_hijacking) four passenger jets. The hijackers intentionally piloted two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Airlines_Flight_11) and United Airlines Flight 175 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Airlines_Flight_175), into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Trade_Center) complex in New York City; both towers collapsed within two hours. The hijackers also intentionally crashed American Airlines Flight 77 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Airlines_Flight_77) into the Pentagon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pentagon) in Arlington, Virginia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arlington,_Virginia), and intended to pilot the fourth hijacked jet, United Airlines Flight 93 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Airlines_Flight_93), into a target in Washington, D.C.; however, the plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanksville,_Pennsylvania) after its passengers attempted to take control of the jet from the hijackers. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_September_11_attacks).
Suspicion quickly fell on al-Qaeda, and in 2004, the group's leader Osama bin Laden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osama_bin_Laden), who had initially denied involvement, claimed responsibility for the attacks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsibility_for_the_September_11_attacks).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks#cite_note-cbc-2004-0) Al-Qaeda and bin Laden cited U.S. support of Israel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_%E2%80%93_United_States_relations), the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Southern_Watch), and sanctions against Iraq (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_sanctions) as motives for the attacks. The United States responded to the attacks by launching the War on Terror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_Terror) and invading Afghanistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Afghanistan_%282001%E2%80%93present%29) to depose the Taliban (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliban), which had harbored al-Qaeda. Many countries strengthened their anti-terrorism legislation and expanded law enforcement powers. In May 2011, after years at large, bin Laden was found and killed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Osama_bin_Laden).
The destruction of the Twin Towers caused serious damage to the economy of Lower Manhattan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lower_Manhattan) and had a significant impact on global markets. Cleanup of the World Trade Center site (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Trade_Center_site) was completed in May 2002, and the Pentagon was repaired within a year. Numerous memorials were constructed, including the National September 11 Memorial & Museum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_September_11_Memorial_%26_Museum) in New York, the Pentagon Memorial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentagon_Memorial), and the Flight 93 National Memorial (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_93_National_Memorial) in Pennsylvania. Adjacent to the National Memorial, the 1,776-foot-tall (541 m) One World Trade Center (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_World_Trade_Center) is expected to be completed in 2013.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks#cite_note-2)

Nice, Eleven Attacks, is the tragedy that changed the United States completely. It proved that even such a powerful nation like the United States was vulnerable to terrorists attacks. It pushed the U.S.A to act unilaterally. In which the U.S. changed its policy of Containment and Deterrence to the policy of "War against Terrorism"Good Luck
