تفنى عيونهم دمعا وأنفسهم في أثر كل قبيح وجهه حسن
Grave harm have lovers to themselvesdone
Loving, ere understanding life begun
They, with witheredand wasted souls
After vile, though pretty-faced creaturesrun

عش عزيزا أو مت وأنت كريم بين طعن القنا وخفق البنود
فرؤوس الرماح أذهب للغيط وأشفى لغل صدر الحقود
Defiantly live, or in honors die
Midstslashing blades and banners flapping high
Rage is best dispatched bylances’ points, and
Spearing spiteful chests shall their spitedeny

إذا ساء فعل المرء زادت ظنونه وصدق ما اعتاده من توهم
وعاد محبيه بقول عداته وأصبح في ليل من الشك مظلم
One’s ill-conduct brooding mistrust willbreed
For dark thoughts on darker suspicions feed
Slanderingfriends with what foes have slandered one
Thus in black nights of doubtone’s life willlead

فقد يظن شجاعا من به خرق وقد يظن جبانا من به زمع
إن السلاح جميع الناس تحمله وليس كل ذوات المخلب السبع
Fiery rashness may as velour beseen
And nervous anger may cowardice mean
Arms are carried bypeople everywhere
But not all claws are lion’s, nor askeen

يرى الجبناء إن العجز عقل وتلك خديعة الطبع اللئيم
وكل شجاعة في الأرض تفني ولا مثل الشجاعة في الحكيم
Cowards see vapid impotence as sense
Suchis treacherous villainy’s defense
Each of velour's divers formsenriches
But valiant wisdom is of worthimmense

نبكي لموتانا على غير رغبة تفوت من الدنيا ولا موهب جزل
إذا تأملت الزمان وصرفه تيقنت ان الموت ضرب من القتل
Our dead we mourn, though we very wellknow
That but Vanity they leave ere they go
Reflection uponlife’s hard course shall teach
This one to die as be slain by afoe

لو كنت بحرا لم يكن لك ساحل أو كنت غيثا ضاق عنك اللوح
وخشيت منك على البلاد و أهلها ما كان انذر به قوم نوح
Shoeless you would be of you were asea
If rain, earth unable to contain ye
Country and people ofyou I could warn
Of that which only Noah couldforesee
