La Méditerranée, une mer malade de sa pollution

C'est en mer Méditerranée que les concentrations de plastiques sont les plus élevées au monde. Il y en précisément 250 milliards de micro-plastiques qui flottent au gré des courants. Ces plastiques sont très dangereux pour les animaux qui les ingèrent en les confondant avec du plancton et qu'ils accumulent dans la chaîne alimentaire. Une pollution plastique qui provient à 90% des terres, et principalement des grandes agglomérations
Autre danger pour cette mer qui ne ne représente que 1% de la surface des océans : celle du trafic maritime. Pas moins de 30% des navires dans le monde naviguent en Méditerranée. Certains de ces bateaux dégazent près de 200.000 tonnes d'’hydrocarbures chaque années au larges des côtes.

L'une des ces voies maritimes est le canal de Corse. Il débute au Cap Corse et s'étend jusqu'au sud de la côte est de l'île. Cette route est beaucoup moins médiatisée que les Bouches de Bonifacio, pourtant son niveau de fréquentation la place en haut de l'échelle des risques en matière de pollution. Pas moins de 20.000 navires empruntent cette trajectoire chaque année. Au total, c'est 25 millions de tonnes de matières dangereuses qui transitent dans ce canal
Que deviennent les déchets plastiques ? Une partie est recyclée mais une grande part se retrouve dans l'environnement. Entre 70 et 80 % des déchets en mer sont des plastiques
