Hello

First of all,define dialect,what is meant by the word dialect?

Then,talk about regional dialects and give an illustration

The best example is:the difference between American english and British one(pronounciation,lexis,morphology,and syntax)

What is dialect?Generally speaking,a dialect is a variety of a l a n g u a g e belonging to a particular social class.The speakers of a dialect usually share a similar social-economic or educational-background

This is a complex and often misunderstood concept.For linguists,a dialect is the collection of attributes (phonetic,phonological,syntactic,morphological,sem antic) that make one group of speakers noticeably different from another group of speakers of the same l a n g u a g e.

Regional Dialect:a regional dialect is not a distinct l a n g u a g e but a variety of l a n g u a g e spoken in a particular area of a country.Some regional dialects have been given traditional names which mark them out as being significantly different from standard varieties spoken in the same place.Some examples are "Hillbilly English" (from the Appalachians in the USA) and "Geordie"(from Newcastle upon tyne in the UK)

As I said before,you can provide your classmates with an example,and the most suitable is the difference between American English and British one

Pronounciation:
Am=/ Kar/.........Br=/ka/

Lexis:
Am=gas.......Br=petrol

Morphology:
Am=dove......Br=dived as the past form of dive

Syntax:
Am=I don't have a car.......Br=I have not a car

PS:you can add other examples (pronounciation,lexis,morphology,syntax)
