Hurricane Formation Hurricanes are created by complexes of thunderstorms that evolve into hurricane strength with the aid of the ocean and atmosphere. The water must be warm enough to provide energy for the hurricane, usually higher than 75 degrees Fahrenheit the warm water provides heat moisture which, in turn, provides energy. This is why hurricanes quickly weaken when they travel over land or colder ocean waters, since they lack the warmth and the moisture. The structure of the hurricane is very simple. At the center of the hurricane is the eye, the calmest area of the hurricane. The eye wall separates the eye from the rain bands, bands of clouds carrying the torrential rain of a hurricane (§1) Hurricanes are the most devastating natural disaster, effecting thousands of people each year. During each hurricane season, innocent people are injured, properties are demolished, and money is forever lost. Hurricane cause damage in a variety of ways, including strong winds, flooding tornadoes, and rip tides. (§2) The strong winds of a hurricane are most often associated with the widespread damage from a hurricane. The rapidly moving winds can uproot trees; throw cars, ands level buildings. A storm is first classified as a hurricane when its winds exceed 74 miles per hour, though many reach as dangerously high as 200 miles per hour.(§3) Flooding is caused by the storm surges and the heavy rainfalls associated with the storms. Even when the hurricane moves inland and begins to deteriorate, there still May be a tremendous amount of rainfall.(§4) Many people are unaware of tornadoes that are formed during hurricanes. These tornadoes are found relatively close the eye wall of a hurricane where the conditions are ideal for their formation. The tornadoes occur in heavy areas of rain, making them extremely difficult to track. (§5) Rip tides are the final source of damage from hurricane. Rip tides are very powerful sea currents moving outward from the shore when a strong storm is nearby.rip tides are so powerful that a person physically cannot overcome the pull of the tide. However, these tides are narrow enough that if a person swims parallel حي قعلول –برج البحري - الجزائر Web site : www.ets-salim.com /021.87.16.89 : الفاكس- Tel-Fax : 021.87.10.51 :℡ to the shore, it is possible to escape the current. Rip tides are the first indication of an approaching hurricane.
