Used to is a semi-modal that we use to express a past habit.The negative form is didn"t use to

The semi-modal used to and its negative form are usually followed by a verb in stem form ie infinitive without to

Examples

1- When I was a child,I used to go to the zoo with my father

2- She didn't use to be good at English and now,she is a teacher of English.Strange!

- Did you use to smoke when you were young?

4- Where did he use to spend his holidays?

As you notice,we have given examples with the semi-modal used to in the affirmative,negative and

interrogative forms

Exercise : Use the semi-modal used to in the different forms to express a past habit

1- Your father ( to drive ) quickly when he was young?

2- It ( not to snow ) in Algiers years ago

3- What people ( to wear ) in the 15th century?

4- Children,in the past, ( to be ) educated better than they are now
