Advice in writing expression

The word thing and its compound like anything something..etc should be avoided much as possible;because they make the overal aspects of the composition vague.I'll give you an example:
the thing was that i didn't understand anything of all the things she was trying to tell me.I had to think of something to face the situation but i couldn't find anything to make her understand.So;i just smiled without a thing.These red words make you imagine others to be instead them.So guess them to make the short text meaningful and clear.Good Luck:rolleyes::19::mh31:
