The first grammar explorer concerns the two connectors: providing that and as long as

The two connectors express condition exactly like (if ) conditional type one

Let's take simple examples

I will go to Paris providing that you go with me

As long as they revise their lessons,they will get good marks

What do you notice concerning these two examples?

Each example is a sentence composed of two clauses

Sentence number one

I will go to Paris..........We call this clause ( main clause ) because its meaning is complete

providing that you go with me...........We call it a ( subordinate clause ) because its meaning is not complete because

it contains the connector ( providing that ) and for that reason it can't stand by itself

Note that the subordinate clause is the clause that contains the connector

Let's move to the second example

The second example is also a sentence composed of two clauses

Could you tell me what the main clause is?

The lesson is about expressing regret in the present and in the past and future desire using the verb wish

To express present regret,we use the past simple after wish

example

Father,I wish you were here with me now

This is a son who is regretting that his father is not with him and he is either writing a letter

to him or calling him.Since it is regret in the present,we use the past simple after wish

To express regret in the past,we use the past perfect after wish

example

I wish I had got my BAC last year

Here,it's a student who is regretting not having his BAC last year.Since it is a past regret,we use the past perfect

Add the phrase by the subject

Complete with what remains from the active sentence

Let's take an example in the present simple

The teacher explains the lessons very well

The object is the lessons.So,we start by the lessons.Then we conjugate the verb to be

in the present simple because the verb explains is in the present simple.So,we say: The lessons are

Next we add the past participle of the verb which is explained

So,the sentence will be: The lessons are explained

After that,we add by the teacher very well or very well by the teacher

Well,the passive sentence will be: The lessons are explained very well by the teacher

Or

The lessons are explained by teacher very well

When the verb is in the present continuous,you are going to follow the same steps,but just conjugate the

verb to be in the present continuous which is is being+verb+ing or are being+verb+ing

Example

The teacher is explaining the lesson very well

It will be : The lesson is being explained very well by the teacher
