The Nobel Peace Prize has been jointly awarded to Professor Muhammad Yunus from Bangladesh and The Grameen Bank he started. The prize was given for their work in lending very small amounts of money to poor people to set up businesses, especially women in the countryside.
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded in Oslo to the Bangladeshi banker Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank. Announcing the winner, the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee said Muhammad Yunus had shown himself to be a leader who had managed to give hope to millions of people. Mister Yunus is the founder of the concept of ‘micro credit’, which is the extension of small loans to entrepreneurs too poor to qualify for traditional bank loans.
The award came as a surprise to many here who had tipped someone involved in peace talks as winner this year. Mr Yunus himself told national Norwegian television he was delighted with the prize soon after the announcement was made. The winner is expected to receive the award and 1.4 million dollars in prize money during a ceremony here in December.

نوبل، أَلفْرِد بيرنارْد (1833م - 1896م). كيميائي سويدي اخترع الديناميت وأنشأ جوائز نوبل. انظر: نوبل، جوائز. أجرى في شبابه تجارب على النتروجلسرين في مصنع والده. وكان يأمل في جعل هذه المادة الخطرة متفجرا آمنا وصالحًا للاستعمال. وأعد متفجرًا من النتروجلسرين، لكن وقعت العديد من الحوادث حينما عُرض للبيع، إلى درجة أن كثيرًا من الناس عدوه عدوا للشعب تقريبًا لبعض الوقت.

لكن وفي عام 1867م، استطاع نوبل خلط النتروجلسرين مع مادة ممتصة. بحيث يمكن شحن ومناولة هذه المادة بأمان. وسمى نوبل هذه المادة الديناميت. انظر: الديناميت. وأصبح نوبل، خلال سنوات قليلة، أحد أغنى أغنياء العالم. وأنشأ مصانع في جميع أنحاء العالم، واشترى مصنع بوفورز الضخم للأسلحة بالسويد. كما عمل في مجالات المطاط المصنَّع، والحرير الصناعي، والعديد من المنتجات الأخرى.

لم يكن نوبل يتمتع بصحة جيدة، بل كان مريضًا وعصبيا بصورة متزايدة. وكان يعاني الإحساس بالذنب لصنعه مادة سببت الكثير من الموت والدمار. وكره فكرة إمكانية استخدام الديناميت في الحرب، بينما كان يعتقد أن اختراعه من أجل السلم. وأنشأ نوبل صندوقًا بمبلغ 9 ملايين دولار، يستخدم العائد منه لمنح جوائز سنوية، إحداها لأكثر الأعمال المؤثرة لتشجيع السلام العالمي.

ولد نوبل في 21 أكتوبر 1833م، في ستوكهلم، ابنا لمخترع. وتلقى تعليمه في سانت بطرسبرج ـ لينينجراد سابقًاـ بروسيا، ثم درس الهندسة فيما بعد بالولايات المتحدة
