The enhanced power of our 2008 5 Series only begins with the engine. Its body has been toned, its reflexes quickened and its multitude of innovative features equipped to do much more than what you ask of them. In short, the new 5 Series is everything you expect from a BMW. And then some.

Power that gets ahead of everything but the driver.

How much power can one driver harness? That all depends. For the 528i sedan, we’ve developed a 230 horsepower inline six cylinder engine, an improvement of 15 horsepower over last year’s model. More impressively, our 535i sedan’s inline 6 with twin turbo has been boosted to 300-horsepower, an upgrade of 45 horsepower.

No matter how powerful it gets, the 5 Series knows its own strength, and exactly how to apply it. With standard 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission, you’re always in optimum gear. In fact, shifting couldn’t be more effortless with a new ergonomic electric shift lever. And the optional sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters, offered on our 535i and 550i models*, lets you take even more power into your own hands.

All lines trace back to performance.

Every detail of the 5 Series further implies the power lying just below the hood. Its bolder, sportier look begins with a more form-fitting lower air intake, and is carried through to new all-white headlight lenses and redesigned front and rear bumpers. The 550i sedan’s new optional Sports Package with Aerodynamic Kit also adds to the vehicles aggressive attitude: from its sportier sounding differentiated exhaust pipes and M Sport Suspension, down to new 19” double spoke alloy wheels (non run-flat) that carry the whole design forward.

Inside, nothing has escaped our close attention to detail – not even the door handles, which have been refined and wrapped in leather. Smoother lines guide your eyes around the spacious cabin. Rich door trim that has been moved up to the window line for a more refined look. Functionality is also streamlined with window buttons relocated to the armrest and door pockets deepened to accommodate more.

Only technology this advanced could feel so familiar.

With everything our 5 Series calculates, anticipates and keeps track of, it never forgets the driver. In fact, the easily accessible iDrive Controller can store your favorite radio stations, telephone numbers and directions in its six programmable memory keys. Our 5 Series even knows how to surprise you with features like its two-way power moonroof and USB adaptor for iPod/MP3 players**. And going to even greater lengths to help protect you, our 5 Series sedan is equipped with even more safety features than last year’s model – including Lane Deviation Warning technology, which alerts the driver of any deviations from the lane by vibrating the steering wheel, if the turn signal has not been activated.
