Despite the calls for today's demonstrations from different bodies and parties of the civil community and the opposition leaders , the reacting of the population was somehow disappointed to pro-democracy seekers.
Only Few hundreds went out today to the streets of the capital Algiers showing their support for the demonstrations, while no such protests have been reported in the other regions of the country. These setbacks are probably what made the protestors in Algiers look weak ,vulnerable and outnumbered among the huge numbers of policemen, who were deployed to occupy each and every corner in the capital of the country and across the other big cities
.
Some viewed what happened today in Algiers as a real abortion of democracy in the country, and so far, the policy of containment which the government has proclaimed and launched since the fall of the totalitarian regime in Tunisia has proven to be effective..
The population in Algeria has not reached yet the levels of awareness which both Tunisians and Egyptians have, some analysts declared
.
However , on the other hand , some people believe that the protestors who have gathered in Algiers today defying the ban of demonstrating against the government , even if they were in small numbers, have set a model for all the Algerians and broke all the barriers of fear , and now its up to the people either to support the demonstrations in the coming days and overthrow the regime , or live cowardly under the rule of tyrant.
On the light of what has been going on lately in the neighboring countries from deomonstrations and revolutions against the governments , are we going to see a domino effect on Algeria ?? and if it ever happens are we going to be ready for change?
