This scientific event disseminates recent methods and procedures designed to solve problems related to finance, insurance and portfolio selection formulated through a mathematical programming framework and for which a stack of conflicting and incommensurable objectives (criteria, attributes) is simultaneously optimized. The aim of this conference is to bring together researchers and practitioners from all over the world to discuss recent theoretical and methodological developments of multi-attributes portfolio selection, insurance and investment.

Summer School on Mathematics of Infectious Diseases

Résumé The summer school school will include lectures on mathematical epidemiology, and one of the most important aspects will be projects for groups of 4?6 students, mixing scientific backgrounds and levels of experience, and focusing on real-world problems around which students develop and analyze models. It will also incorporate several lectures on public-health topics with focus on those relevant to other events of MPE2013 such as global spread, Indigenous populations health, vector-borne diseases and integration of surveillance, statistical data analysis and dynamical modelling and simulations.

The goals of the Summer School are to encourage more developing scientists to become interested in this field and to encourage communication between mathematical modellers and public health scientists and epidemiologists who have been historically unaware of the uses of mathematical modeling.

Résumé ValueTools 2012, the 6th International Conference on Performance Evaluation Methodologies and Tools, is an interdisciplinary conference whose goal is to gather and to facilitate the flow of expertise between researchers working on performance evaluation, optimization, and stochastic modeling in complex systems. Owing to recent technological advances and the massive connectivity of our "always-online" era, these issues have attracted considerable interest in the fields of computer science, control theory, networks and telecommunications, operations research and signal processing, and, traditionally, all these communities have had a strong presence in the organization and steering of the conference. Correspondingly, ValueTools 2012 solicits previously unpublished contributions that propose new performance evaluation methodologies (or help clarify the limitations of older ones) in practical complex scenarios, and new tools (or novel applications of already established ones) with which to control the performance of complex systems where traditional methods have failed to produce appealing results.

Résumé Signal processing constitutes an important area for the application of mathematical concepts and techniques fuelled, for example, by developments in mobile communications, multimedia systems and digital TV. The subject is still advancing rapidly in areas such as non-linear/non-Gaussian/non-stationary signal processing, compressive sampling, digital communication systems, iterative estimation (e.g. turbo codes), blind deconvolution/signal separation and broadband systems. The last IMA conference on this subject was held in December 2008 and in response to popular demand, the next one will be held in December 2012. The aim of the conference is to bring together mathematicians, statisticians and engineers with a view to exploring recent developments and identifying fruitful avenues for further research.
